Graduation Information

Preparing to graduate from a certificate program

Students completing a Certificate Program will be eligible to receive the following documents at the end of their program:

TCNJ Certificate: Ed. Leadership, Elem. Ed, Sec. Ed., ESL, and Special Ed. – US/Non-US Citizens
Certificate of Qualification (CQ): Ed. Leadership, Elem. Ed, Sec. Ed., ESL, and Counseling – US/Non-US Citizens
Certificate of Eligibility of Advanced Standing (CEAS): Counseling, *Special Ed Post-Baccalaureate, and *Bilingual Endorsement – US Citizens (*For these programs, please consult faculty advisor)

Students Must Apply for Graduation

Students completing the certificate program (Elementary, Secondary, Teaching English as a Second Language, Ed Leadership, Special Education) must apply for graduation with The Office of Records and Registration (R&R). Only matriculated students are eligible to apply for graduation.

Students MUST apply for graduation in PAWS (M.Ed. candidates incur a $100 application fee and Certificate candidates fee is waived). The graduation application deadline is February of that year (spring, summer, and fall terms). Graduation applications received beyond February may be subjected to delays in receiving graduation documents (diploma/certificate).

6-8 weeks after the conferral date of your certificate (shown as “Program Completion” date in PAWS), OSGP will receive your TCNJ Certificate from Records & Registration.

Students who do not adhere to the graduation application deadline run the risk of having their TCNJ documents (diplomas and certificates) delayed.

Letter of program completion request 

Off-Site Graduate Programs will send an electronic letter of completion once your degree has been posted. Students in need of a TCNJ letter of completion prior to receiving their diploma, please complete this form.

Graduation Application Deadlines

  • Spring, Summer, and Fall candidates MUST submit a graduation application in February of that year.
  • Winter candidates MUST submit a graduation application in December.

Students who do not adhere to the graduation application deadline run the risk of having their TCNJ documents (diplomas and certificates) delayed.

Please note timely disbursement of official documents rests with students doing the following:

1. Successfully complete all required coursework
2. Reconcile of financial account in PAWS
3. Apply for graduation in PAWS
4. Confirm/update mailing address in PAWS to reflect preferred address (you will also place that same address below): Failure to do so may result in graduation documents being automatically shipped to an incorrect address by the Office of Records & Registration.

Students Must Apply for their Certificate 

Along with submitting a graduation application, candidates completing a Certificate MUST apply for the CQ with TCNJ’s Certification Office. United States citizens have the additional option of applying for the CE. (Matriculated Students Only)

Certificate of Qualification (CQ): Upon program completion, ALL STUDENTS may apply for a Certificate of Qualification.

The CQ is issued to both U.S. citizens and non-citizens and verifies the completion of TCNJ’s teacher preparation program. Although the CQ is not a teaching license from the State of New Jersey (and is not accepted by national or provincial schools), it is recognized by international schools and their accrediting agencies and allows candidates to teach within the international school community outside of the U.S.

Certificate of Eligibility of Advanced Standing (CEAS) US Citizens – Counseling Candidates Only:

Upon program completion, Counseling candidates who are US citizens may apply through TCNJ’s Certification Office. For questions concerning certification, please either consult your academic advisor or TCNJ’s Certification Office.

Certificate candidates planning on continuing to an M.Ed. program

Students MUST reapply with the Office of Graduate Studies by submitting another graduate application. Please complete an online global graduate application with The Office of Graduate Studies. The application fee of $75.00 is waived for former TCNJ students who have completed a graduate program and no other supplementary materials are needed.

Ordering official TCNJ Transcripts

Students wishing to receive official TCNJ transcripts may order them through the Office of Records and Registration.

Graduation Documents: Mailing Information

OSGP graduates are eligible to receive, free of charge, a one-time shipment of graduation documents. OSGP will bundle together all pertinent documents, per each student’s request, for a one-time mailing. Students wishing to have their graduation documents bundled and mailed together or who wish to have their documents mailed to an international address, please complete this form.

Students who are not in need of a bundled mailing and who would prefer to have their documents mailed to a US address, please verify that your address is correct in PAWS.

OSGP works together in conjunction with TCNJ’S Office of Records and Registration and Certification Office in coordinating the procurement and disbursement of graduation document mailings for OSGP students.

PART A:

Documents may include the following:

  1. TCNJ Diploma (M.Ed. candidates) Students apply for graduation through PAWS. All diplomas are processed by TCNJ’s Office of Records & Registration.
  2. TCNJ Certificate (Certificate candidates) Students apply for graduation through PAWS. All certificates are processed by TCNJ’s Office of Records & Registration
  3. TCNJ Official Transcripts (M.Ed. and Certificate candidates) Students order official transcripts through PAWS. Transcripts are processed by TCNJ’s Office of Records & Registration. ***If you would like for your transcript to be sent to OSGP to be shipped with your other graduation documents, please indicate OSGP’s address when submitting your transcript order form: OSGP, School of Education Suite 102. Official transcripts can also be mailed directly by The Office of Records & Registration to your mailing address (US Mail only).
  4. Certification of Qualification (CQ) (Certificate candidates) Students must apply for graduation through PAWS and must submit a CQ application with the Certification Office. CQ application is located on TCNJ’s Certification Office website. ***Certificate of Eligibility (CE) and Certificate of Eligibility of Advanced Standing (CEAS) (Counselor Ed Students only) is available online through the NJ Department of Education.

Certificate of Advanced Standing (CEAS) Counseling Students Only – US citizens are eligible to apply for a CEAS. Students should have submitted a CEAS application with the Certification Office. CEAS is only available online.

Preparing to graduate from a M.Ed. or MA (Counseling) program
