*All global in-person summer courses are scheduled in Portugal at Nova School of Business & Economics (located in sunny Carcavelos, about 15 miles west of Lisbon). See details for the Portugal campus.

 Admission Requirements

  • An earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, college, or other approved institution.
  • The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) was taken within the last five years. See test waiver information.
  • A completed online application.
  • Current resume.
  • Two strong letters of recommendation (e.g., unequivocal endorsements and letters from supervisors familiar with the applicant’s work are weighted favorably).
  • Personal essay.
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for applicants for whom English is a second language and who have limited experience working/learning in an English language environment.
  • Applicants must also meet the specific admission requirements of their selected certificate programs.

Application Process

Certification and Graduation Requirements

All students who complete the Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) MEd program will receive the following:

  1. TCNJ diploma

All students who complete the TESL Certificate program will receive the following:

  1. TCNJ certificate
  2. Certificate of Qualification (CQ) – US and Non-US Citizens

Certificate of Qualification (CQ) (US and Non-US Citizens) 

The Certificate of Qualification (CQ) is a graduation document available to all students (US Citizens and non-US citizens). The School of Education developed the CQ, produced and disbursed by TCNJ’s Certification Office. It verifies successful completion of the required graduate coursework for a teacher preparation program. It is a credential widely recognized by International Schools and their accrediting agencies.
