Educational Leadership – Global

The international school community recognizes and respects TCNJ’s graduate global programs in educational leadership. Current offerings include a Master of Arts in Educational Studies and a Post Master’s Certificate in Global Educational Leadership.

Master of Arts in Educational Studies

The Master of Arts in Educational Studies allows global students to earn a master’s degree by combining educational leadership, supervision certificates, and a capstone requirement. This program of study requires a minimum of 30 credits and is designed to provide global educators with the knowledge and skills needed for a leadership position in a school setting. Courses include concepts of leadership administration, supervision, and curriculum development.

 Admission Requirements

  • An earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, college, or other approved institution.
  • The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) was taken within the last five years. See test waiver information.
  • A completed online application.
  • Current resume.
  • Two strong letters of recommendation (e.g., unequivocal endorsements and letters from supervisors familiar with the applicant’s work are weighted favorably).
  • Personal essay.
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for applicants for whom English is a second language and who have limited experience working/learning in an English language environment.
  • Applicants must also meet the specific admission requirements of their selected certificate programs.

Graduation Requirements

  • Minimum 30 credits for those currently serving in an educational administrative capacity.
  • For those not yet serving in an educational administrative capacity, a minimum of 33 credits is required. Students must complete EDAD 688/Practicum in School Administration.
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Satisfactory completion of all required courses.
  • Completion of all departmental requirements for the associated certificates.

Note: Individual courses may fill the requirements of more than one certificate program but will only be counted as the stated credit amount toward the overall degree.

Post Master’s Certificate in Global Educational Leadership

The Post-Master’s Certificate in Global Educational Leadership is an intensive graduate program designed to provide global educators with the knowledge and skills needed for a leadership position in an international school setting.  This program seeks to prepare exemplary school leaders.

The program is explicitly aligned with the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders and the standards from the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) to prepare school leaders who:

  • Demonstrate knowledge regarding social, emotional, and academic dimensions of P-12 learners.
  • Develop the knowledge, skills, and disposition to engage in culturally responsive educational practices with diverse learners and cultural and socioeconomic community contexts.
  • Explain how to create and develop positive learning and working environments in various school contexts.
  • Collect and use data and research to inform their practice.
  • Enable their professional growth through goal setting, self-assessment, and reflection.
  • Develop skills and dispositions to collaborate with colleagues to support professional learning.

Admission Requirements

  • Undergraduate and graduate degrees from an accredited college or university
  • Competitive GPA
  • Teaching certificate or evidence of successful educational experience under a valid provisional or standard New Jersey or equivalent certificate (N.J.A.C 6A:9-12.5)
  • At least five completed years of successful teaching or educational experience, as noted above, at the time of application
