TESL and/or Bilingual Education Certificate Program (Traditional Cohort, 1/Course Semester)

The TESL program offers a track for pre-service participants (21 credits, an initial certification program for those not certified in an instructional area) as well as in-service teachers (15 credits, as an endorsement certificate for those who hold a CEAS or Standard certificate in an instructional area).

The Bilingual Education program provides the necessary courses for certification as a bilingual teacher in the state of New Jersey. This endorsement program (12 credits) is only for already-certified teachers. Teachers seeking Bilingual endorsement often also pursue TESL endorsement as it requires the completion of only one additional course.

Getting Started

New TESL cohorts form on a rolling basis. Please complete our interest form if you would like to be added to the mailing list for updates on program details and grant funding opportunities.

TESL and/or Bilingual Education Certificate Program (Global Accelerated Program)

In the Summer of 2024, OSGP will be offering a select number of seats to New Jersey educators to take courses as part of the global TESL/Bilingual program with substantial grant support. To serve both the domestic and global population, summer courses are condensed and offered through a combination of synchronous online learning and in-person courses held at our off-site location in beautiful Portugal. Courses in this program can be taken in almost any sequence, making it easy for candidates to pick and choose up to four (4) classes this summer across the format(s) that work best.

Sample Course Sequence:

Summer 2024
ESLM 577 (online from May 18-June 9)
ESLM 545 or ESLM 579* (in Portugal, June 24-July 3)
ESLM 578 (in Portugal, July 4-12)
ESLM 587 (in Portugal, July 15-24)

Fall 2024
ESLM 525 (online)
ESLM 700 (comprehensive exam, online)

* Required only for pre-service candidates working toward initial certification. Pre-service candidates will also take ESLM 588/688 (student teaching) to be eligible for certification.

There is also an option to begin coursework this summer and continue during the academic year, also with grant funding (see “Traditional Cohort” section above).

Costs
Tuition is reduced to $800 per class after the grant award is applied. Your district reimbursement may further reduce your out-of-pocket expenses. Travel and accommodation are the responsibility of the student (if taking in-person courses in Portugal).

How to Get Started
1. Apply for matriculation. Application instructions can be found here.
2. Pre-register for course(s) here. OSGP will review your course choice(s) and will be in touch with advisement and details on how to register. Seats will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis if interest exceeds availability.
